UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES
Introduction
Unintended Consequences is a continuation of the “Day in prison through the eyes of a Baltic convict” project which I started to work on since 2017 photographing objects and people inside the Estonian prisons. An er getting access to a few places of imprisonment, I desired to show how people survive in such an environment and what is their daily routine. is project is a trip down the memory lane of the people who have been facing the scariest things. A convicted person finds himself in a new world, with its own cruel rules and difficulties they need to deal with on a daily basis. It was a unique experience to interview ex-prisoners who had no contact with the outside world for more than eight years and follow life after being released. It is unbelievably hard to get back to a normal life after living for almost ten years in the rough and repetitive conditions.
I photographed and interviewed them about the daily routine in prison. My visit to prison tends to create images of the jail and its workers. is project has multiple purposes: Explore the topic that ordinary people cannot get access to, show how people survive and sharing horrific consequences after committing the crime, which can be a good motivation not to involve themselves in crimes. I found three people for this project.
